Over the past few days, we have figured out how the legislative branch works and who works in it. Today, we are shifting our focus to the head of the Executive Branch and that person is the President of the United States, but did you know that the President really has a lot more than just one job?
He (or someday she) actually has a long list of roles and responsibilities. Today, you're going to make an advertisement for a job opening. You may have seen these in the newspaper or online before. Sometimes a company needs a person to fill a job, but they don't get any good applicants. When this happens, they often have to advertise the job, just like other companies would advertise used cars, HDTVs, or ripped jeans.
Your advertisement won't just be any job though... You'll be creating an advertisement for the job of President of the United States. Just like any other job ad, you'll have to list all the responsibilities that the job requires, requirements for the position and make it attractive to potential employees. Since being President is such a tough job, you'll have to make it look a little more appealing by adding pictures and some fun descriptions.
You will find these descriptions and bits of information attached to various QR Codes around the class and just outside the room.
Below, you'll see an example of a real job advertisement, but I'll warn you... Don't call them to apply because this job is in Australia and that will be one very expensive phone call! :)
On your journey, you will be developing some sort a "Help Wanted" advertisement for the job of the President utilizing one of our many apps, PicCollage, EduCreations, iMovie, etc. Your advertisement must include the following information:
- The requirements to become POTUS
- The seven major "hats" the President wears
- Two examples of the President's Power
- Two examples of "checks and balances" between the Executive Branch and the other two branches
- Your Ad must be FUN and EYE CATCHING
